Sea Creatures

Today Dilara and I were talking about dolphins and watched some videos of dolphins swimming around. We talked about the difference between mammals that live in the sea, and fish.  We have a box full of 'nature stuff"--an intact garter snakeskin shed in my backyard, the dried flower pods from Magnolia and Sweet Gum trees, and a bunch of different types of shells, a sandollar and a starfish, and some dead cicadas and their cast-of larval cases.  We have a great fish store nearby called "The Aquatic Critter" where we can see many ocean creatures, alive, in their aquariums. They often have stingrays and sometimes have seahorses.  They also have a section of the store called "The Reptile Room" which is full of snakes, lizards, and they even have a big tank of caimans--SCARY!

I sorted all the sea life items, which also included a realistic looking plastic crab and put them in their own shoebox.

I remember a short show called "Seahouse" which used to be on our local PBS station. I checked and found some of the videos on youtube.

I am open to suggestions on how to connect this to Turkey. I'll add to this post later.

What do you want to connect to Turkey?

The show? Or a list of sea creatures?

Speaking of making a fool of myself I sent Ekrem a love song in Turkish on his phone. I translated it and it seemed like a normal love song. I get a call and he asked me why I was calling him gay? LOL, the English translation seemed normal but in Turkish it is applying someone is gay. LOL Ops. Luckily he understood.

I meant the subject in general.

I would like to know some words in Turkish like for dolphin, fish, shell, starfish, crab, etc.

Are there any Turkish stories about sea creatures? Dilara was watching Disney's "The Little Mermaid" with Callie today. Callie said Dilara kept insisting the King Triton was the queen! Dilara also calls her father "a princess" sometimes. I guess I need to explain some things to her. LOL I know a mermaid isn't really a sea creature, but it is full of cartoon fish, octopuses, seahorses, etc.

Funny story! I am sure I'll embarass myself many times as I try to use Turkish.

okay, that is what I thought but wanted to make sure. I'll put together a list. I haven't heard Ekrem talk about any sea stories, but I'll ask him if he remembers any.

Well, we have "Jonah and the whale." I think this is a good topic we will work on every year, so I hope I can get lots of ideas. Someday I'd like to go to the beach!

What an exhaustive list! With all this, I should make up my own children's story and incorporate as many as possible. If I do this, perhaps Ekrem can translate for me? I'm not quite to the point where I am ready to do my own translation LOL.
